Opening of the Guam POLHN Centre

Opening of the Guam POLHN CentreThe Guam Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) held its official opening ceremony to launch the DPHSS POLHN Centre on June 11, 2015.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) provided funding support to establish the DPHSS POLHN Centre with equipment such as: desktop/laptop computers, printers, TVs, and other equipment necessary where employees can obtain access to continuing education opportunities via the online courses offered by the POLHN e-learning lab, in-person training and have access to resources as well as other online courses.

WHO also provided funding support for other initiatives addressing continued professional development (CPD) and training for staff through institutions of higher learning.  The goal is to continue to build Guam’s workforce capacity in the department by offering POLHN courses to our employees as well as courses offered through other educational institutions.

In coordination with WHO, the Department also provided POLHN awareness presentations for staff and hosted a capacity building workshop for vitalizing POLHN.  The objective of the workshop was to provide up to date knowledge and skills on POLHN management, to share best practices and challenges in POLHN operation at the country level, and to discuss each country’s POLHN operational plan and targets for year 2015-2016.  The workshop included POLHN country focal point participants from the Republic of Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands, and Guam.
