Niue: Health and Education

Opportunities in Niue

Due to its isolation and small population, there are no centres for higher education in Niue. As such, most students go abroad to other Pacific islands, or undertake distance learning in order to gain post-secondary qualifications.

Niue has one hospital: the Niue Foou Hospital, located in Kaimiti, Olafi.

Continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities

Due to its geographical location, Niue’s health services suffer from vulnerability due to isolation. As such, e-learning programs such as POLHNedX and coursera are a useful way to promote knowledge and learning within the health sector. In particular, POLHN offers health courses targeted at South Pacific countries such as Niue. For more information on POLHN opportunities in Niue, contact Oscilyna Kulatea (email here).

In addition to distance learning, the Australian Government offers scholarships for Niueans to undertake tertiary study abroad. Known as the Australia Awards, these fund living, travel and study expenses to enable studying in universities across Australia. For more information, visit the Australia Awards website.
