The theme of this Conference, “Building Collaborative Strategies to Reduce Vulnerabilities in Disasters” is most relevant to us in the midst of the challenges of global disasters. It addresses the urgent needs to develop collaborative efforts for disaster preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation in the region from multiple professions, institutions / governmental departments, and sectors.

Welcome Message from the Advisors of the APEDNN
On behalf of the Asia Pacific Emergency and Disaster Nursing Network (APEDNN), it is our privilege to invite you to participate in the APEDNN Annual Conference, which will be held from 12-13 November 2019, at Chiang Chen Studio Theatre, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Natural and man-made disasters increased globally in the past decade. In 2018 alone, earthquakes, flooding and typhoons caused thousands of lives in Asia Pacific, not to mention the economic consequences of those disasters. In face of the challenges, it is crucial to develop collaborative strategies to reduce the impacts of disasters and enhance resilience of individuals, nurses, healthcare professionals, and communities.
With the theme “Building Collaborative Strategies to Reduce Vulnerabilities in Disasters”, this Conference offers a response to the pressing issues related to impact of disasters, disaster preparedness, and disaster management and nursing development. We bring together renowned experts from all over the world to share their latest research findings, research-based good practices, curriculum and course design, as well as networking and collaboration strategies. Through discussion, sharing of experience and exchanging of views, we aim to develop new ideas and strategies for educational, scholarly and research collaborations.
Capacity and resilience building is an ongoing commitment that requires cross-border, cross-sector, and multi-professional partnerships. This Conference is a good starting point for us to strengthen and demonstrate our unity for disaster preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation in the Asia Pacific region and exchange knowledge and strategies for promoting collaborations that contribute to disaster reduction and recovery in community and healthcare settings.
We are sure that this two-day Conference will give you inspiring experiences and offer you plenty of opportunities for developing solid networks and furthering collaborative partnerships.
We look forward to meeting you in Hong Kong.
